#3428 1500 93 civic hatch

At the moment the bodywork is getting done. Its in the workshop getting its rust sorted same as (teal_dx Site Admin) had done on his rear arches! All cut out and replaced so there is a lot of money getting put into the car!

Want to gain more out of the engine other than normal parts e.g induction kit, exhuast......which it has!

What i want from the car? Not looking for a 10sec car! i will be using the car on a daily basis but track and strip racing at the weekends. I know that it wont be as fast as the b16 blocks but it will be different and hopefully fun! i meen, thats why we do it, right?

Went onto turbokits.com and you can get a turbo for the 1500 but finding it hard to find examples.
e.g What turbo kit? Change the cams? ect...

The engine has been watched after and its sitting at 80000 miles

i have had a compression and leak down test at my garage that i work at as a salesman (citroen!!!!)
And everything came back well.

This is my first enquiry into doing this so i aint got a clue where to start.
Any help, info, links and pics would be appreciated.
Peace
Mark

#3432 Well for starts, do you have a horsepower number in mind? Depending on how much boost you need to run to meet that # will determine what turbo you'll be needing and how you'll beef up your engine to handle it.

If you're oly going to be running 6 psi, your engine should be OK, if all is tuned properly. The D motors have small and weak rods, usually the first thing to break in a boosted D motor.

#3460 was thinking about 160 to 170? I would believe that this should be enough on the rods?

6psi would do me fine! Its all about the cash vrs power really dont want to go mental but still want to have a boosted car! Not willing to change the engine, so its the next best thing!

Anything needed prior to boosting then?

Thanks

#3462 My recomendation would be to just build the bottom end, get a good engine management system, and then have some fun. :D

#3544 So your saying i should take the fun out of boost and "build the bottom?"

What do you recommend on the d15?

Cheers mike

Shit, just keep it simple and affordable. The rods seem to be the weakest part of the SOHC bottom end. Sleeve it and slap some forged rods and call it a day. Just a lil something to hold up to the extra wear and tear.

#3549 Sleeves aren't needed unless you're going to be making big power. Lots of boosted D16's are pushing 300+HP on stock sleeves. Of course, these have all been finely and properly tuned by a professional who knows their shit. Not slapping on a Fuel Management Unit and calling it a day.

It all depends on how far you want to go and what kind of power you want.

FMU's are frowned upon for big power setups, but for a low budget D15 turbo setup that is only pushing 6 lbs of boost, I think you'll get by with a FMU.

If you're going to build a SOHC block, I'd pick up a D16z6 or D16a6 block and build that. There is a better aftermarket for these than there is for the D15. And stay away from the D16y5, D16y7, D16y8 bottom ends- they have oiling issues and are more likely to go boom.

Why not go with a low boost setup for now, drive on it & see how you like it. If you get bored and you want more HP, you can build up another block in the mean time (rods, pistons, sleeves if you wanna get crazy  )

#3551 a low boost setup sounds the bizz! Nothing to mental!

Any places to be going for a turbo kit then? Boys who actually deal with turbos and not some ebay pish that you see kickin about. I mean i want to keep it cheap but i dont want to go fuckin my car!!

Its kinda harder with me being in sunny Scotland but im sure companys can deliver.

Lets get the boost on :D

#3559 That kit from full race will fit the D. I'm pretty sure they just swap out the turbo manifold for a D series. I just thought of full race because I know they make a quality product. That EBAY one doesnt look bad, price is good too. I just never get anything off EBAY, so I dont know about the quality.

Get the motor back at the end of the month from the bodyshop.

New rear arches, front wings and new bonnet!! god damn salt rustin everything!!

whats your thoughts on slight mods to aid the boost or even just safe guard the motor?
