#43180 I am purchasing a new set of wheels and tires within the next month (right after I get painted...) and am wondering what the differences is in tire wear numbers etc... I had a set of Falken 512's before and they wore really quick--so I replaced them with some cheap tires called "RIKEN" and they've lasted forever... can anyone help me out here? Thanks for any input =)

#43188 there is a tread wear rating on the sidewall of tires next to the Traction and Temperature ratings. The softer the tire, the lower the number, the faster it will wear.
For example, I believe the tread wear on my Azenis are 200 and are good for about 10,000 miles. Most tires that come on oem passenger cars are 300-400.

Falken 512's have a 360 rating, although some sizes are 400 and 300.

inflation, alignment and most of all driving styles will have a big impact on tire life. :thumb:

Yeah, a lot of my 512 problem was all of this... I am looking into the kumho ast which only has a speed rating of 'h' but treadwear is 400... I'd like to have a better SR just in case I ever use these tires on a track or something, but I still want good wear. With the package I'm getting my choices include:

FEDERAL SS595 (very unlikely)
NEXEN N2000 (also unlikely)
HANKOOK H105 (good possibility)
FEDERAL SS535 (unlikely)
KUMHO AST (good possibility)
FALKEN 912 (good possibility, just a bit more money)

So out of the three I'm leaning towards, does anyone have experience and/or suggestions on them?

Thanks teal_dx for the last post :thumb:

#43281 I'm gonna be running 15's...wanted a little more tire without raising it back up. I think the tires I posted are all I can choose from for the wheel and tire package. 195/50/15's

#43284 the speed rating means the tires are rated to a certain MPH.

unless your civic runs 130+ mph H rated is fine.

M 81 mph 130 km/h
N 87 mph 140km/h Temporary Spare Tires
P 93 mph 150 km/h
Q 99 mph 160 km/h Studless & Studdable Winter Tires
R 106 mph 170 km/h H.D. Light Truck Tires
S 112 mph 180 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
T 118 mph 190 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
U 124 mph 200 km/h
H 130 mph 210 km/h Sport Sedans & Coupes
V 149 mph 240 km/h Sport Sedans, Coupes & Sports Cars

#43315 a friend got the 912's on his rex, and he loves them. they're pretty decent in the dry, but dont expect mega grip levels like the neova. he says that they're really, really good in the wet.

Heh, 130+ on d16... I wish.

So 912's are good... I got that much so far, have good treadwear ratings as well. It's going to be between 912's and the Kumho ast's; both look good, but I know nothing about Kumho tires, Always known falken for having a good rep.

#43344 i'm running 912s on my white wheels. They are pretty decent tires for spirted driving + good treadwear.

I only driven around 2k-3k on them so I dont know yet. But they are much better than the 512s! thats for sure.

if you run the track, i suggest getting another set of rims because the track will eat up your tires regardless. Thats why I got 3 sets of rims. hahh. THey are like shoes. You dont run in your casual shoes or dress shoes. you run in your cross-training/running shoes.
