#38973 I bought a gauge cluster off of eBay for my 1992 hatchback DX. The needles on my gauge cluster broke I put the white faceplates on. The speedometer/odometer have been working, just not the hot/cold and fuel meters. So, I bought one that was from a 1993 HB off of eBay, and it the back, it's missing a port where I need to plug a harness in. My current cluster doesn't have a tach on it, and neither does the new one, they look EXACTLY the same. I tried plugging it in using the 3 ports that are on there, and now the hot/cold & fuel meters work, but not the speedometer/odometer. Anyone know why this cluster has this port missing? Or if there is a way to make it work?

#38988 show pictures! are you sure you are plugging them in the right spots?
By wop
#39017 yes, i am sure. the problem is there are 4 wired harnesses to plug in and only 3 spots to put them. see image below:

where the arrow is pointing to, on my other cluster, there is another place to plug in the 4th wire harness. there is nothing under the green plastic cover.

#39065 the plug that goes in taht spot is for cruise control i think. don't quote me on that, but i got my cluster from an EX, and it had a green plug there, and mine didn't. but mine works fine.

it sounds like the speedo cluster in your's is just broken

#39107 i hooked up the cluster i got off of ebay with 3 of the 4 available harnesses plugged in, and drove it up and down my parking lot. the speedometer and odometer didn't move. i parked, removed it, and plugged the one that was in there before with all 4 harnesses back into the right spots, and the speedometer/odometer worked. my car doesn't have cruise control, so it's not for that, either. the harness should plug that in right where that green flap of plastic is, but there is no port for it. i'm at work, so i can't take out my stock one right now. here are some pictures of the other one:

#39109 ok here's what you're gonna want to do, it just sounds like the speedo in that cluster is fucked.

you will need a few flat head screw drivers and a phillips.

1) push down and out on the three tabs on the top
Image

do the same for the bottom
Image

2) when you have those out, remove the three screw directly behind the speedo gauge that you can see in this picture of yours.
Image

then do the same with your other cluster, and swap them. install and everything should work fine.

#39115 i guess i could give it a try, while it's out, i'll take a picture of the 4 wire harnesses and that extra port on the back of the other one, that way you guys can see that i'm really not that stupid. thanks for your help, i appreciate it.

#39120 is/was your car an automatic? if you have a green plug on your harness that could be what it was from as well
By wop
#39124 it's a stick, i doubt it was ever an automatic.

#39150 i switched the speedometers like you advised, and now it works. i took pictures of the other cluster anyway, and the harnesses. i guess i could have just swapped out the fuel and hot/cold guages and put them on my old cluster so i wouldn't have an extra wire sitting back there now, but whatever.
thanks for your help guys, here you go:

#39161 so, any idea what the extra port may be for?
