Ok so this kid tells me he got a b16 motor for me for sale, I go check it out its just the motor with intake manifold, alternatior, the harness, all it needs is the distributer. He says it got 45-60k he got the paper work but......I think the paper work is fake, and the milage is unknown. Anyways he wants 800 for the motor. I plan to rebuild it with new gaskets, seals, cams upgrade intake manifold upgrade oil pan upgrade and all that fun stuff. Anyways you guys think its worth it? Should I do this? Maybe I can get it for 700 or 750? Wat you guys think?

next time you look at it, copy down the VIN # stamped below the engine code on the block and see if he gets nervous...

To me, that isn't a bad price. The trannies typically run 400-500 where I am locally (assuming good condition, good synchros, all maintenance, etc..), which gets you right about where the price of the motor should be. Keep in mind though, depening on what year the motor is, a distributor is going to run you between 130-200 bucks on top of that, unless you buy something used off H-T (not recommended).
My question, though, is if you plan on completely refreshing this motor.. why not spend the money on something that needs the work, and get it for a better price? I've never understood why people buy a full running, low mileage, good condition motor, just to tear it apart and replace everything. I'd rather spend 150 bucks on a bare block and just start from scratch.
