what is this Metal tube on top of the transmission?

If you look at the tranny, right in the middle toward the front, there is a metal tube about 1" tall and 1/4" dia sticking up. Is this some sort of vent tube or is it for a dip stick? Not sure if I should leave it open...

Looks like a breather pipe to me? Dont think it gets connected to anything! :wink:

Yeah, its just a vent tube. If your input shaft seal goes bad you'll leak fluid out of it. :thumb:

I feel like such a noob... I was looking and I didn't see where to put the fluid in the tranny, only a drain plug. This is my first manual civic :?

There is a 17mm bolt just a few inches above the drain plug that you feed fluid in through. Once it starts leaking out your done.

breatherpipe, original there is a rubber thingy on top of it, d/b/h all got this pipe
