D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#97655 would it work to put a b7 head on my z1 block? might be getting a DX with a dead engine, my high millage VX has a good shortblock and burns minimal oil. figured I might be able to combine the 2 so I can save some money that I dont really have.

#97658 Putting a b7 Head onto a z1 block would result in a compression ratio of 7.28:1 instead of the 8.98:1 the Stock z1 has.

If you did the head swap I dont know if it would even start/run.

D Series Compression Calculator - You can check out what OEM Parts will put your compression ratio at. Awesome tool.

#97717 the z1 is a better engine than the b7. Vtec-e vs non vtec. it has better fuel economy. I'd take your time and rebuild the z1.
You can probably find a b7 bottom end for dirt cheap. I sold my complete d15b7 bottom end for $40 on craigslist and it took forever to sell. they're everywhere. :thumb:

#97968 hrmm. reason for staying with D15B7? so that I won't have to do any wiring. not that I cant do it wiring I just dont want to. besides a B7 makes 10 more hp then a Z1

#97969 Boosted94 is running a z1 block with b7 head, it pretty much worked like bag.... till he added 11psi :D

#97970 yah I was playing with that compression calc and added 5psi boost to the equation and it brought the compression under boost up to stock level.

#99392 ya the setup runs 7.41:1 however the water pump is in a slightly different position so you will need a D17 timing belt d16 and 15 will not be long enough. other than that it went together quite smoothly. cheap and boost happy. Note: the z1 pistons have a deeper dish than vitaras :thumb:
