Chipped fin on exhaust side ... ok to use as-is?

It's a T3 super60 with absolutely zero shaft play. The fins on the turbo side are good but there's one chip on the exhaust side:

The fins on the inside of the housing (hard to see) are all fine, just the one chip in the picture is the problem. Is this going to be a big power loss if I use the turbo as is? I really don't want to tear apart a turbo in otherwise such great shape. :?

considering this will cause a change in the air flow, I would not reccomend it. it can alter the balance of the fins as well. When spinning thousands of rpms, I wouldn't take the risk of the turbo grenading in the engine bay.

damn, a rebuild is as much as buying another turbo

looks like a good excuse to get one with an external wastegate and ditch my hf mani for a log

I bought another T3, but it's a .60 trim, not a Super 60. I'm debating selling this one or swapping the compressor side with me .60 trim to make my new t3 a super 60.

well if you want to sell it either way, i would be interested, as long as it doesn't blow oil.

I never got the chance to use it, but from what I can tell it is good. The original owner included most of his whole setup and the intercooler & piping he gave me were dry.

I'll have to figure out what to ask for this, if I decide to sell, I'll let you know first. :thumb:

the biggest worry i would have isnt about the air flow, but rather the balance and whether or not that fin got slightly bent when it was chipped, technically if you sent it out and had the balance checked and or rebalanced you could run it. but if its out of balance it will destroy it self after a while.

yeah it will throw the balance off, shaft damage maybe float bearing damage.

all the fin's would need to be shaved and balanced it would be better as parts
. yeah it would be cheaper to buy another one then to rebuild it

i just want it for the air/exhaust housing and the cartridge
need to get my bros car running.. hes been burning the oil from the turbo.
his turbo burns more oil then a 2 stroke.

yeah if you want to sell it i could use some of the parts,...thanks.
