Few things to know before boost

I've replied to a thread in the 'D series' section which is very similar to what I'm about to ask.

My D16z6 has been rebuilt, ACL bearings, rings etc. The only items which were not replaced were the pistons and the crank. I'm debating whether to go boost now, even though I've now rebuilt my engine to turbo.

My reasons why I'm having doubts are the possible factors
of something to go wrong once turbo'd. I know tuning is the key to get things fast and stable. I'm looking for around 200whp as I still think that's nice and fast but could I keep that at a stable rate? I've never owned a turbo'd car and all I want is for it to be stable.

I don't want to have the doubt in my mind that if I put my foot down, something will go wrong. I don't want to spend a lot of money to get it all right, all the essential parts and get the tuning done down to a 'T', only for it to go bang at a later date. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to be thrashing it everywhere.

So my question really is, can I turbo my d16 to be fairly fast, slightly faster than say a DC5 K20, and remain nice and stable whilst cruising & throttling.

Thanks

Rods are stock, sorry forgot to mention.

alright well that changes things. the weakest part of the d16z6 is the rods.

a stock block can hold 200whp however. so you should stil be good. just dont expect anything over that

Go with a an excellent tuner and you should be alright. 200 is pushing the limits though so a conservative tune would be ideal.

On the d16 you should be safe up to 200 - 220 whp. At least those seem to be the numbers I see floating around. If you want to be absolutely certain get yourself a set of FJ custom length rods and some Vitara pistons, that set up won't break the bank and has been PROVEN to hold well over 300whp as a DD setup (not some track only, holds it for a season then gets rebuilt setup). Also invest in some ARP head studs they'll save your head gasket. If you don't want to get the pistons and rods you should still be fine around the 200whp mark with just the head studs and a good tune.

With a good tune you should be able to run with the DC5s, our EGs have the advantage of being much lighter.

Awesome! Thanks for the information people. I'm going to find out exactly what internals have been changed, and to what. Will be back with all the info!

Yeah the rods remain stock, 200-250 bhp is a nice figure for me anyway :).

Yeah that'll be fun. That's about what I've got going right now on my d15 and it's a blast.
