Turbo and Supercharger discussion
By the ghoul
#144080 I just put a turbo kit on my sol (3 days ago)
its only about 5 psi but has seen spikes up to 8-9 (getting new waste gate today and its only happened twice)
well because of the low pressure i thought i could get away with not making a catch can.
this morning under the crank pully area there was a basket ball sized oil spot and after the engine warmed up i started seeing smoke coming from between the engine and firewall on the drivers side.
i think either
A) the little black box on the back side of the engine blew off (pcv breather box of some sort)
B) the crank seal got pushed out
C) oil is being forced out of the crank seal

because i didn’t see it actively leaking out i don’t think the crank seal was forced out so i think B) is out the window and because it was smoking from the back drivers side of the engine without any exhaust running thru that area i don’t think its C) either
witch leaves me with the quick fix of option A) (Please let it be A))
go home pop the black box back in, grab two bits of tubing and re-route the pcv to an old monster energy can with a filter on it!

Im currently stuck at work mulling this over in my mind with no one to bounce the ideas off of, and no way of troubleshooting it till i get home (10 hours from now). Its driving me nuts!!

please some one, just let me know if this makes sense

#144084 if you had that much crankcase pressure, I thought it would blow the dipstick out first :?

That black box is held in with 2 or 3 bolts on a bracket I think.

Oil pan gasket could be another option.

lol
it turns out its dumber than that
occam's razor strikes again!
i made the assumption this morning that what i saw on the ground was oil
as it turns out (judging from the spot under my car at work right now) it was coolant.
i must have assembled the compression fittings on the turbo incorrectly. as for the oil being low... i also noticed that the drain tube for the turbo has a kink in it. good thing i caught it now because ive seen storys of turbos dying from restrictive drain tubes
actully i think it was your right up i saw that on!

still cant account for the smoak on the back side of the engine, unless the coolant was some how dripping on the down pipe collecting at the low spot of the exhaust system.

lunch time ill screw with it and see what there is to see.
