#139187 So im getting rid of vtec for a turbo set up lol....but my friend who dose turbo buildups as well as he is able to tune them. Wants to know how much my 1994 dx motor will handle before you have to upgrade the internals......not the psi im going to only go 5-9psi really but yea i need the hp maximum that the motor will handle maximum. This will help me decide what turbo and stuff to get.

So any information will be helpful

#139205 Shoot for 200. 250 is considered pushing it. 300 has been done, but not by some schmuck, by a shop that specializes in turbo D series.

At the wheels of course.

#139211 i remember reading some guys build that said he had been thru 4 or 5 stock d's with his boost setup. said the rods would start to get iffy around 210whp on most of them. said he had a few that took it well and others that would just start bending them at that point.

on a B7, i dont think i'd try to push much more than 150-175whp.

#139235 Why would you take out a D16z6 or any vtec engine to put in a D15b7 when you plan on boosting.

Boosting on the D16z6 will yield better results.

TurboD16 will have tons of info.

D16 rods are not reliable past 250 hp.
I wouldn't pust over 220hp.

USDM D15 Rods are even weaker then the D16 rods, I would agree with alldatjuice 150-175 on d15b7 rods. Even more reason to stick with a D16z6.

If you want to swap to a non-vtec for boost go to a B18a/b. Downgrading to a D15b7 doesn't' make much since.

well i wish i had a full z6 motor but i have only the top end of one and i think the valve guides are bad either that or the rings in my d15b2 block are bad so thats why im getting rid of vtec one i dont care for it and two with the motor i have it just dumps more oil out the back.....soo....yea and i just want something that will run reliably for now and then allow me to build a turbo set up for it then heck i can get myself a nice z6 motor or a sohc zc and boost that......

but yea thats the only reason im swapping motors is because mine blows smoke like a mother and i cant seem to find out why

How much hp are they making? What Turbos are they using?
9psi means nothing. 9psi on a Small turbo and 9 psi on a Big Turbo are completely different.
