#131640 ok i have a z6 and i want to boost it but i want to peice it together instead of bying a kit my goal is 400+ but i know nothing about turbos or boosting of any kind realy. i was thinking about goin with a gt30r with the vitara pistons with custom length rods set up (http://fjdistributors.com/product_info. ... cts_id=285 ) but some people say it will take to long to spool and once it does ill need to shift and all my gears will be nothing but turbo lag all day long. im using a jdm lsd tranny with stock gears and a stage 2 act clutch so what turbo should i use with that set up and wat manifold will match up with that particular turbo and what size/type piping should i use with what intercooler and what fuel and ecu management i should go with basicly im very confused and lost :? so if you guys and gals could throw me some ideas and suggestions i would really appreciate it, oh and if possible i would like to keep my a/c cuz i live in oklahoma and it freakin hot
thanks

#131649 if you know nothing about turbos, then piecing together a kit is probably not the way to go. Buying a kit will save you a lot of headaches. There's a lot to learn when piecing together your own kit. The easiest thing for you to start doing to learn is see what kind of setups other z6 owners have and check out their dyno sheets and see what kind of power they're making. Research different turbos and learn how to read compressor maps.

Here's a good start for some general turbo knowledge: http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html

#131701 400hp is a pretty high goal, especially if you have never built an engine before.
unless you are an engine building wizard, vitaras will not get you to 400hp.
but they will get you over 300hp on pump gas with a good tune.
not too many AC friendly turbo setups will get you over 250hp, but i'm sure it can be done.
you should check out some of the setups of people who have turbo'd their d-series here:

#131728 I missed the 400 WHP part somehow...
I've seen it done once on stock sleeves and perfect tuning, but still a time bomb IMO.
Plan on a fresh block & sleeves, crank work (balancing & knife edge & most likely micropolish, possibly talk to the builder about modifying the journals for more oil flow) forged pistons & forged rods, ARP hardware, modified head (valvetrain, cam) upgraded axles, Limited slip to put the power down, not sure how much the stock si tranny can take...
just curious... how much funds do you have to put into this project?
it's cool to show SOHC love, but at 400 WHP, DOHC is more practical.
