Ive been collecting a few parts at random for a while but know little to nothing about turbo systems. I know the mechanics of it all but have no idea when it comes to turbo sizing, and matching all the rest of the components. I picked up an ebay kit with the intention of just getting it tuned (using a perfect power smt6 I already have) and calling it a day. After the oil seals blew out of the turbo (even tho I was running an oil restrictor *GRRRR) I was told I also need to upgrade my fuel system as well…
So here is a quick rundown of what I have at my disposal right now; based on what I have can someone suggest a good starter setup please? The rough part about this is I don’t want to go all out with this setup because I will be done with my project engine in a year or so. I just want a bit of boost to get used to the systems and tuning involved. Also as a backup system just incase something goes wrong in the project engine and I have to swap it back for a while (car is a daily driver).
THE GOAL : no HP goal in mind, less than 8psi of boost, daily driven, would rather go a little on the big side when it comes to components so I wont have to upgrade many things when I get my project engine done (forged b18a lower end, ported b16 head, gsr cams, strong valve train; 350-400 daily driven hp goal).
WHAT I CURRENTLY HAVE:
- cheap ebay turbo kit
- oil lines and fittings
- 38mm waste gate
- 50 trim t3/t4 turbo (currently with blown oil seals)
- Manual boost controller
- exhaust manifold and down pipe
- fmic and all the tubing
- stealth mode adjustable oil restrictor valve
- gauges; wide band O2, oil pressure, boost
- rc 310cc injectors
- real HKS blow off valve
- Perfect power smt6 engine management system
PARTS I FOUND FOR SALE, THAT IM CONSIDERING:
- Garret t3/t4 57 trim turbo very little shaft play $90
- turbo concepts 38mm waste gate
I mostly need to know
-what fuel pump should I get
-will 310 injectors be big enough to feed under 10 psi of boost?
- is there any thing else I need to upgrade in the fuel system?
- What should I do about the turbo?:
-run a t3/t4 in preparation for the better engine
- Rebuild the ebay one with a real garret kit?
- Get the 57 trim garret?
- find a turbo that’s better sized to the b16 and upgrade when the new engine is done?
-What turbo would be a good size for daily driver, stock b16 internals, under 10psi, with
the 310 injectors?
- other than colder plugs, fatter wires, turbo timer and a vacuum block, is there any thing else I should look into getting?
I know these are all noob questions, but because I don’t know that much about turbo systems I cant effectively search for the answers, and haven’t seen any setup specs that look any thing like what I currently have to work with.
