I have a 1992 civic Vx. Most of the exhaust looks like it has a heat shield. And every once and a while...the heat shield just vibrates and makes a loud rattling sound.... I know the heat shield is there for a reason... but is there a way I could just get rid of the noise? ( Is it safe to just remove the whole heat sheild off of the exhaust?) Sorry for the lame question... Thanks

I wouldnt remove it, try and find out what part is making the noise - it might just need a bolt tightened up or something like that

you may have to tack weld it in the loose place

personally when the head shield started to rattle like your explaining on my car i got under there with clamps and clamped it together and it seemed to work for a while then it statred to do it again, but after a while it was my exhaust itself that broke off at the end of the cat. i brought it to my mechanic and asked him if the noise was related to the exhaust breaking and he said yes its a very good chance, i replaced the exhaust with an aftermarket cat back exhaust and left the heat shield off and no problems whatsoever so i would check to see how the exhaust itself is looking too.

I will check for the bolts... but I have seen most of them... they look pretty tight..... dam... I could wait just a little longer until I put my d16 in.... the noise sounds like its coming from the heat sheild around the exhaust manifold at the bottom.... Thanks for the info guys.... I think in the end I will result by getin a cat back exhaust haha...

..... I was thinkin bout that... but other people are telling me to leave it on.... I dont want anything to melt or something haha..... have you ran your car with out the heat shield?
