humming noise from CAI?

we put a AEM short ram on my buddies D15B and all seemed normal, sounded great, just like it had on my LS.

he brought it over today and at idle it's making this loud noise like you get when you blow across the top of a bottle.. car is running perfect, no idle surges, no noticeable vacuum leaks.

only way to make the noise stop is to take off the filter and slightly cover the inlet.. if you cover it up all the way it wants to stall so i don't think there's a leak. it's not causing a problem just annoying.

anyone else get any strange tones from their intake? when i had it on my car it whistled a little when slightly revved, but nothing like this.. any ideas :?

My friend had the same problem when he first started his b20vtec and it got so annoying that we pulled the CAI off and just ran from the throttle body.

glad someone else knows what i'm talking about! it's a very obnoxious sound!

did he try changing the length of it or anything? that's what i was gonna try next but, sounds like it might be going back to stock intake. sucks cause it sounds rowdy on the little D15b

Ha yeah its very annoying, one of our friends had a short ram intake and it was much bigger in circumference so we through that on and it stop, but he ended up just running it from the throttle body, saved money.

Yeah because doesn't the specter filter start off skinny and gets a bit wider? That might've been my friends issue as well because he had one. Just get a HKS filter :thumb:

it's not the filter. the intake makes the noise with it on or off

it was on my car for years. this isn't a normal noise from an intake. this noise is MUCH louder than normal, and not in a good way.

put it this way.. his car has a nice quiet stock exhaust. you can hear the hummmmm from a good 100ft away from the car..

your idle intake consumption has increased for some reason....mine did it because a stuck iacv....still nothing big....just a large consumption of air to keep the car running.
