Replacing Distributor!!!!!

so my distributor had standing water and shorted the whole thing.. i just need some help on how to make sure im at TDC in comopression because i've never replaced a disributor or done timing

... a little help if anyone has any advice.... oh yeah i have a stock D15 so nothing too crazy lol thanx

if your old one is timed correctly, just mark a line across the top bracket on the dizzy going onto the head. Then draw the line in the same place on your new dizzy and line the marks up.
Or buy a timing light and a helm's Manual.

You don't need to set the cam timing. Just the ignition timing.
I strongly suggest you buy a non adjustable timing light and a Haynes manual. The marking method doesn't work that great, especially when changing to a different distributor. It's very easy to get it 2 degrees off and that can make a big difference. Besides, how do you even know the timing is correct right now?
You'll need a 12 mm socket, ratchet, and some extensions.
