Fans not coming on, Temp gauge not working

I just swapped a d16z6 from a 92 Si hatch into a 92 DX hatch. when i got the motor and wiring harness from the z6 everything worked. i took the old dash wiring harness out and swapped it with the Z6 dash harness. i turned it on and everything worked (no CEL's) but the engine gets hot and the fans dont come on, and the temp gauge shows it being cold. all connections seem to be fine,( pulled the plugs out and it threw codes ) its just not reading hot. i thought it may be the cluster, which i swapped to, but i put the DX one in and it still showed it being cold. i still need to check the relays, but i think they will be good. Does anyone know whats going on here?? any help is appreciated

there is a coolant temperature sensor on the cylinder head, below the distributor. I would swap that out with your old one and see if it works ok then. they should be interchangeable. I believe it is a green plastic lug on the outside with 2 wires going to it.

i dont have the old switch... the wiring harness, Engine harness and floor harness came out on the same car as well as the fusebox, gauge cluster, and sensors. They were working in the other car so i dont think they would need to be switched, but i will get one out of my buddies car to check. also we are going to check the relays. Anyone with ideas or have had this problem, feel free to chme in with thoughts

Just wondering, how come you switched out all wiring instead of just the engine harness when you did the swap?
The coolent temp sensor is the tiny, one wire sensor under the distributor. a way to check it is to unscrew it from the cyl head, plug it back to the harness, touch the sensor to a place where it can ground out and turn the ignition key to the on position. if the sensor sparks its good.
also check the sensor located in the thermostat housing. you can wire the two wires for that sensor together, and whenever the key is turned on your fan will turn on.

But that'll reduce the fans life? If it cut in all the time.

follow your lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing. there is a sensor sticking out of it. unplug the clip from it, clip the wires a few inches back, strip the ends with some wire strippers, and then twist the two ends together. save the clip just in case you need it later on. turn your key to the on position, your fan should start working.
