i have a obd1 d15b jdm vtec motor. it currently has a d16 intake. it also has the p28 ecu. is that ecu okay or do i need to get a p08.

p28 should be fine.
does your vtec solenoid have the oil pressure sensor(green)?

it just has one wire coming out of it. i think it is green/yellow.

not the wire, the plastic connector.

I'm running my D15B with a p28 with no problems.

p28 will want the oil pres switch. if you have one it will be fine.
if not i recommend getting a vtec solenoid that has one.
this one does not have the green 'thingie':

do all vtecs have to have that pressure switch.

no. i posted a pic of one that doesn't, two posts up.
its a green connector, hard to miss.
the only other one is on the power steering rack.
d15b vtecs have one of 2 solenoids. with oil pres switch or without.
which one do you have? (y8's are different, btw)

not sure which.
i have gotten d15b's that came with solenoids with and without the presure switch. that is why i am asking.

i'm an idiot. i posted saying it has the switch. i meant to say it didn't. plus where exactly would the harness be for checking codes. the car has a vtec controller. is the harness inline with the wires on the ecu or connected to the ecu in some other way.
