#60911 Well...

Spent last night tearing out my headliner and all associated gadgets.

Unbolted the moonroof today and tackled it. I spent a good 4 hours figuring out how it all came apart and semi-cleaning it as best I could. I wasn't sure how to release the cables that actually slid the assembly so I had to clean it with a few of the rails still in tact, but I cleaned the main rails as best I could and wired her back up for a test.

Same problem, one side lags, the motor makes a horrible screeching sound. I suspect it might be a combination of a tired motor and a broken/warped arm assembly on the right side.

I've done everything I could, but I took a few pics of the actual disassembly and how to get it out, which I'll post soon. Now I have a garbage bag, a piece of cardboard and a car cover protecting my precious hole in my room until Monday *sigh* Have to take it into Honda and see if they can service it *Crosses fingers*

I had the same problem with the motor, apparently it's very common on our moonroofs, since they are at least 14-15 years old, and it's just a matter to change a special washer that's on the motor itself. if you look at your motor it has some kind of an adjustable bolt with a washer that have two sides bent (the one that you use to open/close the moonroof in case the motor fails).
According to the manual you need to "adjust the bolt" and need to change the washer. the bent sides are for preventing the bolt to become loose, with time the washer opens and the bolt become loose making it less powerful to open/close the glass. I try to buy the washer here but haven't been able to find it, and put a regular washer on it and it work for a couple of days.
Good luck with it :thumb:

#61276 Okay...so a new motor is $300 and Honda wants $92 just to "asess what might be wrong" before they begin any work.

I'm gonna go back into my garage today, see if I can't figure out how to adjust the bolt on the motor, put it all back together and see if I can get it back in my car.

If it doesn't work any better than before, oh well, if it does, great. At this point I just want to get rid of the hole in my roof.

I'm looking at about $1000 to do some finishing body work and paint on my car so really don't wanna be spending any more money than I have to right now, especially since I have none.

This has become my own little thread but hopefully it serves a purpose for someone in the future.
