ECU, Wiring, Sensors

#60575 first of all hi to all fellow civic-eg members. i'm new here and would like to say hi to everyone.

okay straight to the problem.

problem - my gas meter on my cluster is broken and stays above a full tank now

how did it start?

well one day i was reading on this site about installing a VTEC light. i was reading through tons of it and found this link

http://causeforalarm.thecarthing.com/ve ... TEC_light/

so i quickly went outside into my ex and started up the project. i had my wires installed correctly, everything just like website had it. i started up my car, it gave me a CEL and for some reason my gas meter just kept rising pass the full tank line.

so i turned off the car, removed the wires and put everything back to how to was, my CEL disappeared but the gas meter on the cluster is still the same.

i have a few ideas of how what could of happened.

1. i was running under the empty line meter of gas. thats bad period and could be a reason why it just broke on me cause of running on low gas, somewhat choking the fuel pump.

2. i did not have the negative off the battery so it could of somehow altered the cluster

3. i was coloring all 4 meter sticks on the cluster and i was moving the meters around while coloring, but everything works fine except for the fuel meter.

could anyone come up with a diagnose of what could happen and how would i fix it?

i'm thinking of a new cluster or replacing the fuel pump.

thank you for anyone who could lend some advice. :D

#60621 have you gone through a couple tanks of gas yet? mine was about 1/4 tank off after I drained my gas tank. but eventually it fixed it self after a couple fill ups.

#60625 My VX had that problem when I bought it. I replaced the fuel gauge in the cluster. You don't have to replace the whole cluster, and replacing the fuel pump has nothing to do with that gauge. That gauge is fed by a sensor called a "float" that is in your fuel tank but in a different opening than your fuel pump.

#60636 so i would be better off just replacing the guage or buying a cluster for the replacement?
