white smoke?

Postby egferiolv » Wed Jan 14, 2009 1:43 am

Everytime i turn on the car, it sorta has trouble turning on. i have to step on the gas pedal and it will help it turn on. When i do that, lots of white smoke come out from the exhast. wondering if its bad or not. i have a 92 civic 1.5. and i recently changed the upper hoses, raditor, and the head gasket.

does it smoke at high rpms aswell? if it does then u need pistons rings.
if it only smoke at idle then valve seals.

bluish smoke = oil burning = rings

white smoke = coolant = probably a leaking head gasket

^ what he said

now when you changed your head gasket did you get your head machined flat it might of been warped when you put it back on and thusly allowed the headgasket to fail

or improper torquing of the head bolts could cause a leak

probably a very minor leak. after start up the engine heats up and expands, sealing up the leak. But I'd fix it before it gets worse.

have a compression and leak-down test done, preferably after it's sat overnight to try and create the same conditions as when it hard-starts.

an excess of fuel will result from a black ish smoke. i recently had to re-do a head gasket for a guy who had had it done a week earlier, improper tourque and torquing sequence was the culprit. and you should always check your head with a straigh edge and feeler guage when you take it off.
