juls1488 wrote:its unfortunate to hear about that motor going like that  , but if you're gonna get a new 4 door, i would say go for the 3rd link you posted. while it might be an auto-tragic, the car looks friggin immaculate.

on a side note, it seems like the prices for clean civics are cheaper down in the city the up here in the boonies, and that makes me sad, haha.

yea im alittle upset how the motor went on me..but i think its a wake up call..i need a DD that i can actually drive...and doesnt have a little hole i can see the pavement while i drive..lol...i will TRY to keep the motor as stock as possible for a bit..lol...but swap over all me parts like suspension and all that good stuff...

the third link i posted is def the cleanest looking but...its auto and if i remember correctly its the DX with the non vtec motor, manual windows and locks and idk if id want to deal with swapping ALL that stuff out to convert it to power

im leaning towards the first one i posted for many reasons...its 5speed, moon roof, its the EX model which means its got the vtec motor and ill be satisfied for a while instead of wanting to upgrade the motor, and its cheaper and still looks pretty clean..im mostly concerned with the rust..i can deal with scratches cuz i will paint it sooner if its just scratches than i would if it had alot of rust to fix like my car now.

@sirjump- thats exactly why im looking specifically for and eg 4door..but it is hard to do that when i see other good looking ek coupes for sale

@fatcoupe- i thought of that too..but almost every one i find i have to pay shipping..and then im getting it shipped to my house so that makes it cost extra too...so in the end it will cost about $1,000...at that point id rather spend an extra 500 and get a rust free 4door with a running motor....you may not notice in my pics..but my wheel wells are TERRIBLE IMO and not to mention the hole in my floor pan..

should be interchangable and your mounts would still work

#306445 lol im good on the LED's for now...but i finially found out that the clutch and flywheel should bolt right up..so i just need to gather up a bit more money for the d16y8 motor from the junk yard..i figure ill change the thermostat and thats bout it..if it has any leaks or makes sounds it shouldnt i can get my money back with the warranty they give...if everything goes well ill change water pump and stuff like that after i know i wont be wasting my money on a bad motor...wish me luck!!! lol

#307270 update..i have my motor out and am currently waiting for the motor to be deliverd...should be here by like 3:00pm my time...or so i am told....

the first time i swapped my motor i used a hoist..worked out well...this time i took it out the bottom....seems like taking it out the bottom was a bit easeir and faster the second time around...or it might just be fact that i knew exactly what i had to do this time around to get it out....ill be back on later to let yu guys know how it went :thumb:

#307445 ok so finally got the motor delivered at 5pm yesterday...finished late last night...it runs ok..sounds good now unwanted noise..but it does smoke a bit and the CEL is on for v-tec pressure switch...not sure if min isnt wired correctly or if its clogged or something..will check it out tomorrow

im also having trouble hooking up my oem water temp gauge and aftermarket one to work of the same temp sensor....i can only get one to work at a time..its either one or the other... :?

did you tap the wire for the water temp gauge?

as in - the wire for the OEM water temp gauge - did you tap that wire for your aftermarket gauge?

i did it a couople ways...first i tried to tap into the oem temp wire and sensor with the "sending wire" from my after market gauge...oem gauge worked but not the after market gauge

second-i put in an aftermarket sensor with "sending wire" and neg. wireand conected to aftermarket gauge sending wire to sensor sending wire and oem wire to neg on the after market temp sensor...both gauges did NOT work

third- i put sending wire from after market gauge to after market sensor and grounded the neg. on the sensor to ground and did NOT connect oem to anything...at this point the aftermarket gauge worked...

4th- (same as 3rd) but i tapped the oem wire into the sending wire to the aftermarket gauge....at this point the oem gauge worked but the after market one did NOT work  :? :?

im soo F***ing confused??

#307800 you can't use one sensor to power both gauges. You are making a parallel circuit and current splits in each branch. sending wire already has a low signal/current, so you are offing up both.
what you could potentially do is put a relay with a signal wire to amplify it, but then you will loose accuracy

you have to run each gauge off a separate sending unit.
does your OE gauge work with the OE sending unit and wire?

#307823 yea my oem gauge works with oem sending wire..i guess i have to sacrafice some cleanliness in the bay for both gauges to work
